Happy Birthday, Sweetheart! | Harrisonburg, Virginia Family and Children Photographer

February 22nd, 2012

My little girl, Ambree, is turning six today. Where has the time went? It seems like it was just yesterday we brought her home from the hospital.

This little girl has brought so much light to our lives. She is such a ball of energy and so full of life! I thank God everyday for giving her to us!

I took her out a few weeks back for a quick session. This will be part one of her birthday session because I am wanting to do a second shoot with her once it warms up a little bit!

Hope you enjoy and feel free to leave a comment for Ambree!

What Is Love?

February 14th, 2012

Today is Valentine’s Day and one of my favorite pictures is this image of my grandparents. They were sitting there waiting on their children to gather around them for a portrait and my Grandpa was holding my Granny’s hand and I quickly snapped this image.

They have stayed together through the thick and thin, holding strong. I admire and appreciate the legacy they have left their family.

So, what is love? To me, this image says it all.

Wide Open Spaces….{Harrisonburg, VA Family Photographer}

February 9th, 2012

I had the pleasure of taking my brother and his family’s portraits while I was in Oklahoma for Christmas (hence the wide open spaces title!). I love his family so much!

They own two horses and one of the horses loved being in the pictures! It was as if he knew exactly what to do!

Thank you, Jonathan and Rachel for letting me take your family’s portraits! I miss y’all!

Here We Go…..| Harrisonburg, VA Children’s Photography

February 6th, 2012

“No dream comes true until you wake up and go to work.” Anonymous

Harrisonburg VA Photographer

2012 has been the year of big dreams for me and my family. Yes, I realize it is only February, but in the first month of the year, I took a big leap towards my life-long dream. I remember being around 12 and me and my cousin (waving at Laura!) used to sit and dream about the future. We decided once we were all grown up, we would start a business together. We would open a Children’s Portrait Studio!

All those years ago, I had a passion for photography. I think back to my childhood and remember the times my Grandma would buy me disposable cameras and I would run around outside taking pictures of our animals (which were quite a few!). We would then get them developed and I would proudly display them in photo albums.

Fast forward to now and I live 1500 miles away from where I grew up, but I still haven’t given up on my dreams. I started my photography journey after my daughter, Ambree, was born (more on my journey later!). I began reading, practicing, asking for critique on a photography forum and then starting the cycle all over again. I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that photography is what I wanted to do.

I started under the name Melissa Meadows Photography and began building my portfolio. I worked on honing my skills and my portfolio for two years. At the beginning of January I started praying about the future of Melissa Meadows Photography. Even though I love photography, I wanted to make sure that this is where God wanted me. After much prayer and other opportunities closing, I felt like this is what I am supposed to be doing.

I knew I did not want to continue under the name Melissa Meadows Photography. While I like my name, I have always dreamed of naming my studio something different. I began mulling names over. I finally landed on Castles In The Sky Photography.

It seems like since working on the website, everything has fell into place. Isn’t it amazing how God works?

So what will Castles In The Sky Photography be like in the future? I will be specializing in children, teens and family only portraiture. I will not be excepting newborns, teens over 19 or weddings (I will allow newborns and 19+ in family sessions). I will also be working closely with you and your family to create your dream portrait session.

Also new in the works is the Imagine sessions. I am so excited about this type of session! It will be a theme based session and I will discuss this more in a later post.

I hope you join me on my journey to see where 2012 takes me! If you are interested in a session, my old prices will be in effect until March 1st. To view my old price list, click HERE.
